Back by Popular Demand: Steve Explains Air Layering/Grafting

Featured in this month's GoinGreen segment, Steve explains how to air layer and graft in order to propagate your plants.

  1. Place damp moss or coconut husk on foil.
  2. Add root tone to moss or coconut husk.
  3. See Image: Skin bark off a section of the stem (air layer) or make a diagonal slit in stem and add moss in the slit (graft).
  4. See Image: Wrap foil with moss or coconut husk around stem.
  5. Check to see if roots begin to grow in about a month if not wrap it back up and wait a little longer.
  6. Once roots come out, gently cut stem below the roots and plant in a pot.
  7. Let roots set in before planting in the ground.
